Residents demonstrated at the crown point in Mottram village recently about the Council’s derogatory treatment of their objections to the new District Centre plans.

We feel sorry for the people of Mottram, who are being exploited. This chameleon- like district centre seems to change its name according to how it suits the Council.
If it’s the Hattersley DC, why is it located so near the edge of where most es-tate folk live?
If it’s the Mottram DC, why were the people of Mottram not consulted?

We also feel sorry for the people of Hattersley, who had their old district centre demolished. …..just to railroad through the Tesco superstore? Now they have no community facilities in the true centre of the estate, where they most want and need them.

To get planning permission for this out of town massive supermarket, it had to masquerade as a food store that is integral to a district centre.
Was the whole previous DC demolished just to make way for Tesco’s? Was this the real reason it was demolished?
Surely this is a terrible price for the people of Hattersley to pay, in loss of their community services at the old DC location, and their greater proximity to them there.
The original DC just had one food store. Now it will have a superstore, and another large supermarket, and more car parking than exists for the whole of Hyde town centre! If they’d called it an out of town centre, it would not have got through planning laws, because it would be a threat to Hyde TC, as indeed it is.

Update

1. The Council commissioned a report that concluded Hyde town centre is healthy, based only on trading figures for Morrison’s and Asda. All the other shops in Hyde were ignored!
Now it has been announced that Morrison’s in Hyde is to close (along with B&Q). So much for this report! The truth is — Hyde TC is in decline.
2. Fast food – filling the mortuary A recent Government health watchdog (NICE) has instruct-ed Councils to restrict the number of fast food outlets. This could save 100,000 deaths annually. Tameside is ranked 138 out of 150 Local Authorities in England for premature deaths. Life ex-pectancy is over 10 years less for males in deprived areas of Tameside such as Hattersley. In view of these grim health facts, should TMBC be advocating yet another fast food outlet, at the Hattersley new District Centre?
