There are 4 sites in our area under threat:
- Godley Green This area is as big as the whole of Hattersley West of Stockport Rd, and its new commuters from there will massively add to traffic chaos at the M 67 junction. Worse still, Tescos, plus the district centre & planned new supermarket will suddenly become more central to supply this big urban sprawl. Might this estate be being built—to provide shoppers for Tescos – the superstore that the community doesn’t want?!
- Mottram Green Belt north of the A57 Hyde Road are earmarked for industry and distribution (just as in our campaign against “Concreting Mottram” in 2013-4). See Concreting Mottram
- Hattersley playing fields south of Hyde Road are now earmarked for housing – namely 174 dwellings.
- Sidebottom Fold, Stalybridge — 650 houses at Sidebottom Fold are planned on the fields behindBrushes Road, Copley and Mottram Old Road towards Mottram Rise.
One resident there said “it is difficult to see how building a totally new housing estate for people who are likely to own at least two cars, in an area of outstanding natural beauty , is sustainable.
“One only needs to take a look around Stalybridge Town Centre to see large swathes of land that could be developed, and at the same time breathe some much needed life back into our town.”
